The Zagreb - Split highway is part of the road traffic route between continental north-western Croatia (Zagreb-Karlovac) and the northern Dalmatian regions (in conjunction with the Adriatic road routes). In the network of planned roads this highway supplements and connects the two vital European routes: (E-59) Maribor - Zagreb - Split and (E-65) Rijeka - Split - Dubrovnik.

With its 394 square kilometers, Brač is the most spacious of the Dalmatian islands. The island is covered with the evergreen veil of maquis. There you will find liex, phillyera, arbutus, juniper, pistachio, rosemary, heather and vines. The climate of Bol has all the characteristics of a distinctive Mediterranean climate or the so-called "olive" climate: long, hot and dry summers and short, mild and rainy winters. During the cold part of the year, the south warm wind (SE, "jugo") and the northern cold wind (NE, "bura") take turns. During summer the circulation of air is weaker. The refreshing wind "maestral" blows from the sea (NW) starting in the afternoon till the evening. In the evening from the hills of Brač there comes a pleasant breeze called "burin" (NE). Brac belongs to the sunniest Adriatic zone with over 2 700 hours of sunshine per year. The sun shines form 9 - 12 hours daily on average during the summer.
